Rob and Barbroa Bratislava Engagement Shoot.

I have been lucky enough to do a few international shoots this year and to my delight, I had the chance to do a photoshoot in Bratislava, Slovakia with an awesome couple called Rob and Barbroa. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the shoot was exploring the old area of the city and incorporating some of the beautiful architecture into the photographs. One of my favourite things about engagement shoot is how relaxed the shoots are. The couple always seems to feel at ease and the shoots become more about capturing intimate moments between them rather than having to direct specific poses. Barberoa and Rob were a perfect example of this. After walking through the charming, rustic streets of Bratislava we worked our way up to the castle where the sun was setting. This provided lovely warm lighting to end the shoot.

Debbie and Stephen at Risley Hall

On Sunday I had the great pleasure of photographing the lovely Debbie and Steven's wedding. What really stood out to me about this wedding was the relaxed atmosphere and stunning venue. The day started with Debbie opening the card Steven had written for her to open on the morning of the big day. This was a lovely gesture that I have not witnessed before and really set the mood for the rest of the morning.  The time to get ready went by quickly with Debbie having her hair done by the hairdresser she has been using for many years who was also a guest to the wedding.

Debbie was dressed in a lace 3/4 length tea style dress with antique pink LK Bennet shoes. She clutched a bouquet of pink, purple and blue hues which went well with her daughter's bridesmaid dress of powder blue.

During the wedding, Debbie's daughter sang and played the guitar after the sit-down meal and speeches. This was a lovely gesture which the guest joined it with, singing along with Sophie.

In the evening more guest arrived and were treated to beautifully crafted cupcakes and lots of dancing. For the first dance, they again had live music from their friend who sang. It was heartwarming to see such a close knitted family enjoying the day and everyone was so welcome to me the photographer. I really enjoyed shooting this wedding and I wish Debbie and Steve the best of luck for the future.

Gary and Tamiko at St John's House

What a wonderful weekday wedding! I had the pleasure of photographing Tamiko and Gary's beautiful wedding at St John's house. The warm berry colours of the bouquet and pretty china on the tables create a personalised vintage feel to the day. The guests were served lots of different canapes and drinks in the sunshine by the staff at St John's house before being ushered in to enjoy the wedding breakfast and speeches. A great start to a triple wedding week.

Kyle and Chelsey at Le Gothique

I absolutely loved photographing Kyle and Chelsey's wedding at Le Gothique. I had never photographed this venue before and was blown away by its french charm. The day was full of other wonderful suprises such their cute dachshund Poppy making a cameo appearance and Chelsey wearing custom made converse as her wedding shoes.  This was definitely one of my favourite wedding of the year so far.

Penny and Andy at Kings Norton Golf Club

On Saturday I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely Penny and Andy's wedding at Weatheroak Hall. The wedding was beautifully styled with the bridesmaid, flower girls and seat covers in turquoise blue. The fun travel theme gave the wedding a personal and quirky feel with a world map to help people find their seats and suitcase favours for the children. I absolutely loved taking pictures in this grade 2 listed manor. Once the sun set the lit up house made the perfect backdrop for some final couple shots.

Faye and Glyn at St John's House

Faye and Glyn’s wedding took place on a very beautiful sunny day in April at St John's house Litchfield.  Having one of the warmest days so far this year, they were extremely lucky with the weather.  The beautiful golden light made for some lovely shots outside with the rustic doors and walls as backdrops.

I always enjoy weddings with an afternoon tea as it feels quintessentially British. The tables were filled with mismatched fine china and beautiful spring coloured blooms which matched the bridal bouquet.

What I also love about weddings is the unique and personal touches. Faye and Glyn had a quirky wedding cake in the form of a doughnut pyramid which the guests absolutely loved and looked delicious.

Elise and Chris at Colwick Hall

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Elise and Chris's wedding at Colwick Hall in Nottingham. Elise and her bridesmaids got ready in the beautiful Byron room which is named after Lord Byron of whom the hall was originally the ancestral home of.  The brides and bridesmaids hair was styled by www.everyoneslookingrosie.co.uk. The big 4 poster bed and sashed bay windows created great settings for the brides and bridesmaids pre-wedding shoots.

The bridal party then headed downstairs to the ceremony room, where a nervous Chris was waiting. After a joyful wedding ceremony, the couple and guests headed into the gardens for drinks. Luckily the sun was shining, which provided me with the ideal opportunity to grab a few family photos requested by the bride and groom.

I also went for a short walk with the couple, allowing me to grab some natural wedding portraits of them both. Once the ceremony room had been changed over, all the wedding party headed in to enjoy the wedding breakfast.

Jez and Carolyn at The Embankment

On the 4th of March, I was invited to photograph Jez and Carolyn's relaxed wedding at The Embankment in Nottingham. This Tudor style, recently re-launched stylish venue was the perfect backdrop to the richly coloured romantic themed weddings.

The Embankment have utilised the historic aspects of the room to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The room was lit by magnificent crystal chandeliers when the sun set and in daylight, the sun streamed through the original leaded stained glass bay windows. The architecture of the room made it easy for me to take picture of the guests as throughout the room there were original architectural arches giving the venue a feeling of history and heritage.

Throughout the ceremony and wedding breakfast, the personal touches enhanced the relaxed intimate feeling of the day. The bride and groom wrote their own vows which were both funny and heartwarming and the bride made her own of the shoulder, fitted black dress.

The evening reception was filled with fun and laughter thanks to the amazing Dindongdaddios, their uplifting swing music got everyone up dancing from young to old.

Rachel and Karl at Goosedale

I’m kick starting my 2017 blogs with Rachel and Karl's wedding at Goosedale barn in Nottingham. It's fair to say the weather recently has been pretty adverse, with storm Dorris in full swing on Thursday it was hard to believe the sunshine forecast for the next day. Goosedale was a new venue for me, it was a great venue for rustic themed weddings and was perfectly lit for winter photos. Goosedale features a beautiful ornate pagoda over looking acres of rolling country side that made for a fantastic backdrop to the couple shots.

Jennifer and Michael at Ringwood Hall

Jennifer and Michael were married against the backdrop of the beautiful stained glass windows of St John the Baptist church in Derbyshire. It was a moving occasion in the picturesque 12th-century church, complete with choir and string quartet. Jennifer clutched a beautiful bouquet of warm reds and pinks which stood out against her elegant illusion lace A-line dress with 3/4 sleeves.

Following the service, the bride and groom arrived at their reception venue in style; in a vintage Rolls Royce, clutching a glass of champagne. The guests were ready to meet the bride and groom at the entrance of Ringwood hall hotel and walk down the red carpet to be greeted by more drinks and canapés.

The couple were then congratulated by family and friends at a drinks reception that was intimate and relaxed. The atmosphere was set by a string quartet whilst a magician kept the guests entertained.

I managed to steal Jennifer and Michael away for some couple shots around the manor hotel and our timing was perfect, with warm autumnal colours and soft evening light. Jennifer did an amazing job at modelling her vintage style dress and managed to brave the cold long enough for her photos.

The wedding breakfast was then held in a magnificent high-ceilinged room with a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. The tables were decorated with clusters of flowers that matched the bouquets of the bride and bridesmaids.

Jennifer,Michael thank you for letting me be apart of your amazing day, for trusting me and also to all your families and friends who were just so welcoming all day, another wedding I never wanted to end!!

Photographing Kids at Weddings

Nottinghamshire wedding photographer

Wondering whether you should invite kids to your wedding? This is often a point of contention for brides. While you may be tempted to throw an adults-only event, here’s a great reason to reconsider: Kids are a wedding photo goldmine. From silly smiles to sweet candids of them pilfering petits fours off the dessert table or twirling themselves silly on the dance floor, pint-sized guests can add joy and spontaneity to your wedding (and subsequently, your wedding album). Here are five expert tricks for getting kids ready for their close-ups, so you can capture them at their cutest!
Snap them first
Children get bored fast, so schedule their formal family portraits early, preferably before the ceremony begins if possible.

Go for action shots
You want kids to be themselves, so instead of having them pose, I ask them to jump or run towards me.

Engage them
I entice sceptical little subjects by letting them look at the screen on the back of my camera: show them one image and they’ll want to see more, and they’ll let you take their photo.

Let them socialise
Kids’ interactions with kids and other guests can be pure magic. Encourage the kids to socialise and make friends.

Don’t mess with a moment
The worst is when you’re about to catch a child doing something incredible and funny, and a parent comes over and says, ‘Smile!’

Top Tips For your Bridal prep photos

Capturing the bridal party getting ready has become an important part of the day. Brides will often want those all important shots of their make up being put on and hair being professionally done.

And as photographers we’re used to doing this.

Here are a couple of easy tips which will help you get the stunning photographs you want to look back on.

Firstly when planning your wedding, have a think about where you will be getting ready and how big your bridal party is. I’ve often arrived at a small hotel room with half a dozen bridesmaids, a make up artist, hairdresser, mother of the bride and now me…sometimes a videographer too! There’s often no room to stand, chaos everywhere and the room resembles a bomb site. It’s hard to pull out those amazing photographs of you getting ready when surrounded by clutter. Also if you’ve only got one bathroom to share with all those ladies……it never ends well!

Secondly keep a close eye on the time. Hopefully by this time the timeline has been worked out. It’s always a good idea to be ready about half an hour before you leave for the church/venue. This way your photographer has time to take a few photos as soon as you are completely ready. Otherwise you are faced with the choice of skipping these photos or missing capturing guests/groom’s party arriving. If your budget can stretch then a second photographer can come in handy here. If I am working with another photographer then sometimes I will leave him with the bride whilst I go to the church and meet the guys.
